As you may know, Stronger Communities Team at North Yorkshire County Council has asked us to share their information with local organisations in the Harrogate area who are providing support to their community. Here is some information which it might be helpful to know:
Safeguarding video for volunteers:
The following clip has been produced by Waltham Forest Council to support communities in sharing key safeguarding messages: if you see something say something. It describes how volunteers have a safeguarding role, flags that some people may volunteer for the wrong reason and tells volunteers we want them to be safe too. If you are interested in sharing this with your volunteers the video can be found here: https://youtu.be/HHQG8CJROhU Should volunteers have concerns ask them to speak with you if available, but if not to escalate to North Yorkshire County Council the same day on 01609 780780 or to police if an emergency. As volunteers, they are ALERTERS not RESPONDERS to the situation. NYCC are working on some other safeguarding materials to support volunteering.
The NYCC Customer Service centre now has sight of the ongoing schedule of food delivery parcels for those registered as shielded and have requested support. If a person is waiting for a parcel they believe to be due or overdue, they can call 01609 780780 and the team should have the date of their next scheduled delivery. NYCC have put together the attached FAQs about shielding for some of their own volunteers to use and you may find this helpful when speaking to people.
I attach information about the Jobs Fuse support for people and employers – please feel free to share.
At the moment, people are finding their circumstances changing very quickly, so it’s important they seek the right support and get Benefits Advice as well as getting immediate help, in some cases, with a free food parcel. It’s important they receive the most relevant information, so please advise them to contact Harrogate Borough Council https://www.harrogate.gov.uk/info/20172/financial_assistance/861/financial_help_and_advice or if you feel that the person would need additional assistance to seek support, you can make a referral through the NYCC contact centre (01609 780780).
As testing ability has is now increasing significantly across the country, ‘charities and workers delivering critical frontline services’ are now able to be tested. The most up to date information on how tests can be booked can be found on this website; https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested
And finally, you may notice that our organisation’s name has changed from Harrogate and Ripon Centres for Voluntary Service to Harrogate and District Community Action. This is something that we planned several months ago and went ahead on 1st May as planned. Our email addresses have changed, so it would be great if you could amend your records, but emails addressed to @harcvs.org.uk are still also working. More information is available here: https://hadca.org.uk/news/forthcoming-changes-harcvs . I look forward to working with you in the future!
With best wishes
